DONKEYS' YEARS by Michael Frayn (Comedy Theatre)
Twenty-five years after graduation, six former students return to their Oxbridge college for a reunion dinner. Whilst their lives may have had varying degrees of success, all are connected by a common past. Once locked in their old college for the night, the graduates begin to relive their youth, and old friendships, feuds – and the much-desired but absurdly proper Master’s wife – come tumbling back into the present....
The hugely successful West End production of DONKEYS’ YEARS, Michael Frayn’s brilliantly funny farce, is to embark on a major national tour this autumn. Opening at Richmond Theatre on Wednesday 5 September, DONKEYS’ YEARS will play through to 2008 and has an all-star cast including Sara Crowe, Ian Lavender and Norman Pace.
DONKEYS’ YEARS was a huge triumph when it originally opened in London at the Globe Theatre (now the Gielgud Theatre) in 1976, winning the Olivier Award for Best Comedy. Its 2006 critically acclaimed season ran for a sell-out 9 months and received 3 Olivier Award nominations including Best Revival, as well as receiving rapturous press acclaim.
MICHAEL FRAYN’s recent and acclaimed West End plays include Noises Off, Democracy and Copenhagen. DONKEYS' YEARS was a comedy triumph when it first opened in the West End. Thirty years on, Michael Frayn’s updated version of his brilliant farce should not be missed by anyone who has ever revisited - or avoided - old friendships.
